What Is Maytox® Used For?
Maytox® (Botulinum Toxin Type A) is used for treating various conditions such as cervical dystonia, blepharospasm, muscle spasticity, and for the temporary improvement of wrinkles like glabellar lines.
Who Should Not Use Maytox®?
Maytox® should not be used by individuals with hypersensitivity to its ingredients, active infections at the injection site, or those with conditions like myasthenia gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome. It is also contraindicated during pregnancy or lactation.
How Long Does the Effect of Maytox® Last?
The effects of Maytox® usually last between 16 to 26 weeks. The duration can vary depending on the condition treated and individual patient response.
Are There Any Common Side Effects of Maytox®?
Yes, common side effects include muscle weakness, pain at the injection site, headache, dry mouth, and in some cases, temporary difficulty swallowing. Consult your doctor if side effects persist or worsen.
How Is Maytox® Administered?
Maytox® is administered as an intramuscular injection. The dosage and specific muscles targeted depend on the condition being treated. Only a trained healthcare professional should perform the injection.
Can Maytox® Be Used for Children?
Maytox® is approved for treating spasticity in children aged 2-17 years with cerebral palsy. However, its use in children under 7 years for certain conditions is not established. Always consult a specialist for pediatric use.
Is Maytox® Effective for Migraine Treatment?
Maytox® is not approved for the prophylaxis of episodic migraines (14 or fewer headache days per month). It is recommended to consult a healthcare professional for other migraine treatments.
How Should Maytox® Be Stored?
Maytox® must be stored between 2°C and 8°C (36°F to 46°F) and used within 24 hours of reconstitution. Do not freeze it after reconstitution.
